Closed for the weekend | my life

Friday, December 17th, 2010

Nancy Mitchell Photography will be closed for the weekend, while I get to spend some quality time with my family! Every year my in-laws take our family on a getaway trip instead of getting us Christmas presents! And this year…..Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky, OH! If you need assistance, you can email me. I will be checking it very sparingly, so if you don’t hear from me, I will get back with you next week! May you have a very safe and happy weekend. I know that mine will be full of LOVE, LAUGHTER, and hopefully some healthy children.

And here is the whole gang last year at Frankenmuth!

Memories of Stacie Cunningham | my life

Monday, December 6th, 2010

“I thank my God every time I remember you.”~Philippians 1:3

Todays blog post is about a very special person that’s life was taken away too early. Stacie Cunningham passed away Nov. 27, 2000. I wanted to write about how special she was, so I asked some of her friends to give me some things that they remembered about her. She went to High School with my sister and me. She graduated in between us, but she was my sisters BEST friend! They played volleyball together in High School and then off to college (Cleveland State University) they went and played their together too.

I remember still today the phone call that I got from my sister since I was a nurse asking me about some symptoms that Stacie was having at the time. And being a young, new and naive nurse I said has she taken a pregnancy test? My sister’s response was YES and it isn’t that! Not long after that we found out that Stacie was diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma Cancer. They then gave her six months to live. How could this happen? How could this be? NOT our FRIEND! After Stacie graduated college, she went to live with her parents in Florida. She endured a lot in her last six months.

Photos taken from volleyball programs.

“No friendship can cross the path of our destiny without leaving some mark on it forever.” ~ Francois Mauriac

So here are some memories of Stacie that will never be forgotten!

1. She perfectly scrunched her socks for Volleyball games.

2. She moved her hair between her fingers across her forehead to keep it out of her face.

3. She had an awesome smile and big lips that she always fashionably applied lipstick to.

4. She shook her shoulders when she danced a certain way when she was wearing her dancing pants. She had all types of colors of those rump shakers.

5. She used to glare at people who chomped their food.

6. Her Mickey Mouse blanket. (My sister still has it)

7. Her dog Bailey! (My sister has him too still)

8. She used to get so excited to get her hair highlighted.

9. She used to chew everything so many times before swallowing.

10. She LOVED my mom’s Hollywood Chicken.

11. She used to get our candy bowl first thing when she came over to our home and then she would put a towel over it to make herself stop eating it all.

So this is the 10th Anniversary of Stacie’s death. How ironic it is…see Stacie got me an outfit at my baby shower. (I was due August 2000), but I didn’t know what I was having. She got me this Minnie Mouse outfit. Well, I then preceded to have 2 more boys and kept saying that I am saving this outfit until I have my girl or unless one of Stacie’s friends, my sister or Deirdre have a girl. Well guess what? I had a daughter in 2008. And the outfit finally fits her today! Below are some pics of my daughter wearing the outfit that Stacie bought me 10 years ago! It is like she planned it.

I want to pay tribute to Stacie. There is not a day or year that goes by that I do not think of her. Anyone who knew Stacie was very blessed to have known her. So may you live your life today as though it may be gone tomorrow! If you knew Stacie, please feel free to post a comment of something that you remember about her. Let’s make it a great tribute to a very great gal.

Our Carnival Cruise | my life

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

On Sunday November 7th my husband, his brother Brian and my new sister-in-law Megan, and I got a plane to Ft. Lauderdale, FL and took a bus to Miami, FL to board a one week vacation on the Carnival Glory Cruise Ship. We did have a great time, despite the windy cold weather and the ROCKY boat. We visited Nassau Bahamas, St. Thomas Virgin Islands, San Juan Puerto Rico, and Grand Turk Caicos. We did get some good weather the last two days. My favorite place we visited was Grand Turk Caicos. The water was beautiful on the beach and we enjoyed our time at the ultimate MARGARITAVILLE. Even though our drinks cost us a fortune there. $20 each for our fantastic drinks. Eventhough, the weather wasn’t the greatest we just enjoyed the company and being away from the real world for a week! We did miss our children bunches. My daughter Kasey really missed me. She won’t let me out of her site now. I think she is afraid we will leave again. I can’t wait for my next getaway with my husband (have to get planning)! Enjoy the pictures below. I have a picture of Brint and I at Atlantis 12 years ago sitting in front of the dolphins on our honeymoon, so we had to take that picture again:)

They love picking out their pumpkins, as well as seeing all the animals. And every year there are always baby pigs:) Here are just a few of my kids and a little of what you would encounter if you were to visit! So if you need a place next year to get some pumpkins….GUST BROTHERS FARM is the place to go.

A Backyard Reception | She said YES

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

In July, I got the chance to reconnect with my sister’s high school friend Jen! She called me to photograph her family as she was having a family reception because her and Jon went off and got married low key! So I went to her parents home on the Maumee River and photographed this lovely couple. Jen also welcomes a daughter to her family! Isn’t she just adorable? I had a blast and so did the kids. After the shoot, they were able to jump into the pool! What kid doesn’t like to swim? I really haven’t met one yet! Best of luck to you and Jon and I wish you nothing but happiness for many years:)

Lauren called me after she saw my brother-in-law and sister-in-laws family pictures on my blog. She works with my new sister-in-law and is a kindergarten teacher! She is just so cute. I had a great time photographing their family. Her husband’s family owns the Toledo Fence and Supply Co, so if you are need of a fence, check them out and support a local business. Their son is such a cutie pie. I can’t wait to photograph their family again in the future! I love Henry’s chubby cheeks. And YES, Owen the pic by the tree I must say is pretty darn good, thanks for recommending it:)

Yesterday, I had one of the greatest gifts of all! I got to photograph my brother-in-law, Brian and new sister-in-law, Megan’s wedding day! It is great to finally have her officially in the family. Megan is a great woman! She is kind hearted, very creative, fun loving, and I just admire her to pieces. She has a wonderful family and I am proud to welcome two more nieces and another nephew to our family. Brian, I must say she definitely is a keeper! Thanks for having me be a special part of your day. I may be bias but I have a GORGEOUS family:)

“And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”~Colossians 3:14

My family! Aren’t they adorable?

This is what Brian was doing before the wedding….playing with the photo booth props! Just having some fun:)

Brint , my husband and Brian’s twin brother helps put on his boutonniere.

She is so beautiful and radiant! I can feel her joy in her smile.

LOVE it!

Megan and her 1st grade students

Megan with her mom, dad, and brother.

Funny how things work out….Tricia and I went to High School together and haven’t seen each other in years until one day she appeared at Megan’s 31 purse/handbag party. What a small world! I am grateful to have been able to reunite with Tricia. Here is her lovely family, but we are missing her son. I am sure he was dancing, or maybe chasing after some girls:)

Isn’t Amelia super cute?

Hunter and Dominick in some of the photo booth props! The kids had a blast.

And of course last, Me with the BRIDE and my new sister-in-law! I am super blessed to have her in our family. You truly are not just my sister-in-law, but a FRIEND as well.
