Friendship | Friday Fun

Friday, December 30th, 2011

“Knowing you has added another square to the quilt of my life. The fabric is stamped with your unique touch. The pieces are woven with the memories of our time together. The stitching is firm, binding our friendship for eternity.”

I got an email from a photographer friend the other day saying that she was stopping through Toledo, Ohio and would love to meet up with me. OMG…I was giddy, just like a school kid filled with excitement. Really? She wants to get together and meet me! I would be so honored to meet her! See this facebook/internet thing has done a wonderful thing. It is like having a real life pen pal at your fingertips and more.  It is much more wonderful though. Yes I love getting mail, but getting emails or being able to see what is happening in their life is so much more fufilling than a simple note. Don’t get me wrong. A note still today, does mean a thousand more words probably than a simple email, but the email is instant! BANG…it is there, they get the message and waaaalaaa….. things happen!

So anyways, I got the opportunity last night to meet the wonderful Amy Rae Campbell from Amy Rae Photography! She is such a sweet girl. We chatted mostly about photography, life, GOD,  and ya know… meeting up again and possibly attending a Justin and Mary workshop together this year and maybe roadtripping it! Now that is what you call awesomeness! So I feel that some things in my life are finally coming together in the photography world and meeting other amazing photographers just makes my life just that much more complete. Thank you Amy Rae for taking the time to meet me. It means the world to me! And the next time you are driving through good ole’ Toledo….my house is open for you to stay! I mean it really! Dog and all! Have a safe trip to your new home in Jersey and Have a very blessed New Year! I look forward to seeing you again. xoxo~Nance

Christmas at Fort Rapids | Friday Fun

The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree:  the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.  ~Burton Hillis

Let me first get you up to date. My in-laws have started a tradition back in 2004 where instead of Christmas gifts we get the gift of being together. Our first get together was at Disney World. Then from there we have been to Frankenmuth, Splash, Kalahari, Great Wolf Lodge and now Fort Rapids. The kids all have a grand time and the adults get to enjoy watching and celebrating too. So here is a little video that I put together of our trip. Now, remember I am not a videographer so bare with me…. The funniest thing would have to be the man in the bar! I will let you see it for yourself:) Leave me some love and tell me what is your favorite holiday tradition.

“If you are truly serious about preparing your child for the future, don’t teach him to subtract – teach him to deduct.”~Fran Lebowitz

Just thought I would share something cute and funny that totally reminds me of my dear CPA husband. You do know that TAX season is just right around the corner and this little video couldn’t be more true! Enjoy it and have a great weekend. I know that my weekend is going to be SPECTACULAR! Filled with laughter and giggles.

Educate yourself | What I wished I had known

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

“Other people may be there to help us, teach us, guide us along our path, but the lesson to be learned is always ours.”

Something that has been beneficial to my business is that I have taken the opportunities that have been out there to educate myself! There are lots of free ways to get education on various photography topics, from camera settings to branding/marketing. I have many different sites that I go to learn more. Some of them are the fabulous photographers Zach & Jody Gray. They have Tuesday Tips and Tricks and it is very helpful for learning lots of new information. Make sure you sign up for their newsletter too for some awesome monthly goodness :) I also follow Justin & Mary Marantz regularly. They also have lots of great information to learn from (their newest segment was their live chat, now available for purchase). There are lots of forums out there too that can get you more information probably than you might want to know (Clickin’ Moms, Pictage, etc.). Another great photographer to follow is Dane Sanders. He has multiple videos that you can watch when the are played live or re-watch them at your own convenience. Trust me…they are phenomenal.

I also invested in the the DVD’s by Photo Vision. They send them out every 2 months and they are filled with lots of valuable information from some amazing photographers in the community. You should definitely purchase these to help your business.

Another great place to educate yourself is join a group on facebook. There are many such as Photographers Unleashed, Showiteers, Inspire smart success.

I also blog stalk these great photographers to see all there in’s and out’s. I leave lots of blog love on the sites too! You just never know…someday they might just comment on your blog;)

If you are in need of some help also don’t be afraid to speak up and just ask. There are lots of willing photographers out there.

I hope that I have given you a few links of great people that have influenced me in my journey as a photographer, that will be beneficial to you and your business. And if you have more questions answered on where to go to get started or anything photography….please don’t hesitate to ask. I would LOVE to help you be SUCCESSFUL!

If you are new here… leave me a comment and tell me your new found secret to success. I would love to hear and just maybe it might be something that I haven’t thought about doing or give that blog-stalker an inspirational idea!

Change can happen | my life

“I’m not telling you it is going to be easy, I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it.”

Today marks my 2 weeks of being facebook free! I must say that it was a challenge…YES! And I am sorry for all the messages or comments that I haven’t responded to! You see this has been a very rewarding 2 weeks. I have gotten a lot accomplished and feel very refreshed and ready to take on 2012 like a vengence! I can’t wait to see what GOD has in store for me.

For those of you that are addicted to facebook, just like me! I tell you that you totally should try this challenge! It will do you a world of greatness. I promise… I know you are probably like yeah right Nancy?!?! But I am serious. It has never been better. So in 2012 I am going to try to limit my facebook time tremendously! I mean…YES I will still be a part of the community, but just a little less. So if you want to keep updated with my life and my photography you will have to come to this little slice of heaven for my ramblings! I mean….It is worth it right? haha…

So the actual winners of my facebook challenge are my kids! They said that the best thing that happened was that I spent more time with them. When you hear this you truly know that you have to limit your time and spend it with what is most important! So there ya go…tears.

And here are the little one’s that made it so worth the challenge!

“Laughter is the BEST medicine.”

On Wednesday evening, my husband and I watched a new movie that just came out on DVD! Yup, you might have guessed it… THE HANGOVER PART II! This movie was freakin’ hilarious! My stomach muscles were hurting by the time we finished watching it!

My husbands favorite part is when they come to shore on a boat and mind you they are on land and Allen throws out an anchor! Now that kept us laughing for awhile. I might have to say that my favorite part is when the monkey jumps out of no where.

Here is a sneak peek of the trailor for some FRIDAY FUN and LAUGHS! You know that laughter is the BEST kind of medicine. And what the heck, it was a great in home date night with my husband!

“Friendship often ends in love; but love in friendship – never.”~Charles Caleb Colton

They went to elementary school and high school together and lived one street away from each other growing up, but never hung around each other. And Amber has always had a crush on him. Guess what? One day Mike requested to have Amber as his friend on Facebook and this is where all the magic started! He tried asking her to go out for months but it was on the OSU vs Michigan game in 2010 that their relationship began.

Amber then invited Mike over for some drinks with some friends and challenged him to some butt kickin’ WII sports games.

She loves pizza and Mexican… He loves steak.

He loves Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings… She loves scary movies and her most recent obsession is the TWILIGHT series.

She likes country music… He likes LMFAO or any dance song so he can show off his “white boy moves” as Amber says :)

His favorite color is BLUE, which Amber says deep down he is a Michigan fan :)

Well as you see opposites do attract!

One week Facebook FREE | my life

Monday, December 5th, 2011

So today marks one week of being facebook free and boy oh boy does it feel good! I mean….I do miss all my facebook friends and all their updates, but it is great to just be free. I have spent more time with my family and getting crafty. I have learned to make some awesome jersey knit 5 braided headbands, some more newborn felt flower headbands, some amazing looking I must say….bracelets, some awesome homemade lip gloss in multi-flavors, and some cool looking salt dough heart necklaces! Told ya I have been busy crafting away!

I have had some time to work on my business and watch the amazing Justin & Mary’s LIVE chat. I so so need to get some more butt kickin’ and get some business things accomplished in 2012! I am hoping for some more wedding bookings and some more seniors to photograph. I am hoping that my business grows substantially this year. See I do need it to, because I keep getting called off of work at the hospital :( I do LOVE my nursing job, but GOD does control what happens and I believe that it is his way of saying NANCY you can DO IT. You can now do the one thing that you LOVE and do it well!

I believe that we all need a little break in our lives of the addiction of facebook…. I do get to use twitter, but it just isn’t the same :) I also keep getting that I have facebook messages on my phone, but the disciplined me….just keeps ignoring the alert and will be able to respond next Monday! So if you need a challenge in your life or just need a fresh look, I suggest going facebook free for a week or two! I know that you can do it. Trust me it will feel so good!

And here are some pictures of some of the homemade goodness that I have created:) (p.s. pictures taken with my phone)

Taking a Break | my life

Sunday, November 27th, 2011
I think it’s important to take a break, you know, from the public eye for a while, and give people a chance to miss you. I want longevity. I don’t want to get out there and run myself ragged and spread myself thin. ~Aaliyah
Well tomorrow it is official! I will be taking a 2 week break from facebook. What you say? Can she really take a break?….
It started with a challenge from my husband, yes I know I will have some difficulty because you know I am addicted as many of us are! But hey, I can do it! You see Brint also has a challenge too. He can not drink any beer for two weeks. Now that is a challenge for him because of Sunday and Monday football games right now, but if I have to give something up so does he!
I am hoping that this little break will recharge me, my relationship with my husband, and get that quality time back with my kids. After all, they do deserve my attention. So what I am saying is if you need to get a hold of me about something important…. you will have to call, text, or email me! You can also see some of my updates on this lovely blog of mine. He said I can still use twitter, so that is where some of my posts will be coming from, but I am still hoping to not really do much of that either, we will see.
So like I said….You can CALL, TEXT, or EMAIL me if you need me in the next couple of weeks! May you all have a great two weeks. I will have a lot of catching up to do when the challenge is over, but I am going to try it out and maybe even make a lovely stipulation for 2012 and hold myself accountable. I really should  be investing my time more wisely, as the pictures below show ya what I have been up to this past week!
SO GOODBYE FACEBOOK!

Happy 6th Birthday Zack! | my life

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

“God bless you and keep you, God smile on you and gift you, God look you full in the face and make you prosper.” ~Numbers 6:24-26, MSG

Today is my lovely big blue eyed baby boys 6th birthday! I remember 6 years ago just like it was today! I went to the doctor in the cold freezing snow morning and she said she would induce me that November 23, 2005. She said to go home get my things and go to the hospital, which remember is where I worked. So they were really busy when I got there and my induction didn’t really start until around 1pm. She broke my water around 830-9pm and I had Zack at 10pm on the dot. My doctor left to take her kids back home from getting their haircuts because she stopped in between to break my water and low and behold she missed the delivery! Yup…it does happen. You see they do have a life too. I am grateful though that I had excellent nurses and and a great resident there to help out. So you see, I was stuck in the hospital on THANKSGIVING and ate some hospital turkey but hey….nothing better than a gift of a child.

Today the sun is shining down brightly. I am thankful for every minute of the past 6 years. My Zack is the most loveable little boy you will know. Trust me…. Out of my 3 boys he is so super sweet and all he has to do is look at you with his BIG BLUE EYES and you melt.

So here is to CELEBRATING Zack today!
